Damperiet Sauna

Floating sauna on Senja, Norway's second largest island

Fjordgard, Northern Norway

Damperiet Sauna is a floating sauna in Fjordgard on the island of Senja, often called Norway’s second most beautiful island after Lofoten. The sauna floats in the waters near the iconic Segla mountain, one of the most photographed peaks in northern Norway, creating a setting of extraordinary natural drama.

From the sauna, bathers gaze out at jagged mountain peaks rising directly from the sea. The cold dip between rounds takes place in pristine Arctic waters surrounded by this epic landscape. Senja’s wild and less-visited character makes the experience feel more remote and adventurous than comparable saunas in busier tourist areas.

Fjordgard is located on Senja’s outer coast and is the starting point for the popular hike to Segla. The sauna is an excellent way to warm up after the hike or to enjoy as a standalone experience. Senja is accessible by car from Tromso via ferry or bridge. Parking is available near the sauna.
